ICE Out Gotham uses Batman and Mr. Freeze from Batman: The Animated Series as cultural shorthand to speak plainly: fuck ICE. By placing a symbol of “justice” against a state-enforced villain, the work collapses fiction and reality, using nostalgia as a Trojan horse for protest. Familiar imagery disarms the viewer long enough for the message to hit—this isn’t fantasy violence, it’s real harm dressed as law and order.
